This program readies students for employment or advanced training in the veterinary assisting industry. These courses are also ideal for experienced veterinary assistants seeking supplemental training in this fast-growing field. Upon completion of program requirements, students earn a Certificate of Completion in Veterinary Assisting.

Veterinary Assistants & Laboratory Animal Caretakers 1 |
| Students will be able to recognize, explain, describe and/or demonstrate the following as they relate to
veterinary science and the companion animal industry: Socioeconomic roles; scientific and technological principles; animal science and the role of animals in society; use of tools, instruments and equipment; careers; animal and laboratory safety; parts and functions of various systems; digestive systems and nutritional requirements; reproduction and breeding; preventive medicine and disease control; maintain records; internal and external parasites and control methods; normal and abnormal animal behaviors; animal welfare and animal rights; animal control and humane societies; animal marketing techniques. Students will be able to perform basic first aid for humans. |

Veterinary Assistants and Laboratory Animal Caretakers 2 |
| Students will learn animal restraint and control; the proper use of veterinary science terminology and
basic first aid for companion animals. Students will also describe the problems, causes and solutions of animal overpopulation and various exotic animals and the effects of captivity on them. |

Veterinary Assistant |
| Students will be able to discuss the human-animal bond and its effect on human health, locate and interpret
animal-related laws, explain the role of animals in research, describe the principles of genetics and biotechnology in reproduction and demonstrate knowledge of enterprise management. |

750 Hours, 44 Weeks
